SYNOPSIS
Mechanical engineering without production and manufacturing is meaningless and inseparable. Production and manufacturing process deals with conversation of raw materials inputs to finished products as per required dimensions specifications and efficiently using recent technology.
In order to perform different operation in a lathe such as different types of turning, chamfering, polishing, grooving, thread cutting, filling, knurling etc. Our project is based on High degree surface finish obtains by lathe use of surface grinding fixtures. Normally hydraulic pistons O.D are finished after turning by use of cylindrical grinding. But in our project we prove “lathe is a versatile machine”. So this O.D grinding operation is performed in lathe by using grinding fixture.
In this project job is held between the lives and dead center. And grinding attachment is fixed over the compound slide. The feed is given by movement of carriage and depth of cut is given by movement of cross slide Grinding Wheel is run by a Separate motor at 3500 Rpm. We can obtain the surface finish up to
4 deltas.
ADVANTAGES:
1. Production cost is very low.
2. No need of purchase special machine, save cost up to 1.5 lacks.
3. Taper grinding also performed.
4. It is mainly very useful to hold the lengthy circular rod in particular position.
5. Its operated and maintenance is simple.
6. It is compact and portable.
7. It can be efficiently used.
8. It is simple and rigid in construction.
9. Manufacturing cost in lesser than other vice.
DISADVANTAGE:
1. Vibration occurs due to grinding wheel attachment.
2. In order to avoid vibration specified lathe bed is used.
