Introduction:
A mutual fund is just the connecting bridge or a financial intermediary that allows a group of investors to pool their money together with a predetermined investment objective. The mutual fund will have a fund manager who is responsible for investing the gathered money into specific securities (stocks or bonds). When you invest in a mutual fund, you are buying units or portions of the mutual fund and thus on investing becomes a shareholder or unit holder of the fund.
Company Profile:
Stock Holding corporation of India Ltd.(SHCIL) was incorporated at the special initiative of the Government of India as a Public Limited Company in 1986. It has been jointly promoted and owned by the All India Banks and Financial Institutions, viz., LIC,GIC and it’s subsidiaries, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, UTI, IFCI and IIBI all leaders in their fields of business.
Objectives of Study:
1. To find out the Preferences of the investors for Asset Management Company.
2. To know the Preferences for the portfolios.
3. To know why one has invested or not invested in Mutual fund
4. To find out the most preferred channel.
5. To find out what should do to boost Mutual Fund Industry.
Scope of Study:
A big boom has been witnessed in mutual fund industry in recent times. A large number of players have entered the market and trying to gain market share in the rapidly improving market
The research was carried on in Jammu. I had been sent to SHCIL’s branch in Jammu. Where I completed my work. I surveyed on my project topic: “A study of preference of investor for investment in Mutual funds” on the visiting clients of the SHCIL.
The study will help to know the preferences of the customers, which company, portfolio, mode of investment, and option for getting returns and so on they prefer. This project report helps the company to make further planning and strategies.
Limitations of the study:
Some of the persons were not so responsive.
Possibility of error in data collection because many of investors may have not given actual answers of my questionnaire.
Sample size is limited to 200 visitors of SHCIL out of these only 140 had invested in Mutual Fund.
Sample size may not adequately represent the whole market.
Some respondents were reluctant to divulge personal information which can affect the validity of all responses.
The research is confined to a small ratio of Jammu.
Findings and Conclusion
In Jammu the youth investors are more in numbers
Most of the investors are graduate.
In occupation group most of the investors are private employees.
In income group, between20000-30000 are more in numbers.
Moat of the investors want to invest in low risk investments.
Only 80% respondents were aware about Mutual funds and its operations.
