What is Follow up letter?
In the job search process, a follow-up letter is a letter sent to a potential employer after you initially sent your resume for review.
Or, after your initial interview.
Send to those who has:
Referred you to employers or other contacts
Interviewed you for employment
Offered you a position
Rejected you for employment
Provided you with general information
Written recommendations for you
Role of Follow Up letter
Timing
Send the letters within 24 hours of the interview, conversation, receipt of letter, etc; but no more than two days later.
Length of your letter
Keep it to a brief page. Don't stress a lot of details - it's more important to send something quickly rather than to delay doing it for days.
Resume Follow up letter
Letter sent after your initially sending resume BUT before getting an interview is resume follow up letter.
Why to send:
To get employer’s attention incase you resume has not been read
To make employer take a better look at your resume incase decision hasn’t been given
When to send:
Within 1-2 weeks after resume submission or contact.
In case the employer gives you specific date to receive his reply, you should wait.
Middle
Repeat your interest in the position and in the organization
Confirm the correspondence between your qualifications and job requirements
Add more qualifications missed during the interview (If have)
provide information requested / discussed after the interview.
