ABSTRACT
Retaining walls are essential elements, be in it earth dams, construction of flyover, separation of plots at different level etc. However the conventional method and material used have proved to be labour extensive, uneconomical and space consuming. A future idealistic solution to this is the construction of the earth retaining walls reinforced with geotextile materials.
The project discusses the use of Geosynthetics in the construction of RE walls, the comparison between conventional earth retaining walls and RE walls reinforced with Geosynthetics and the design details of the above.
INTRODUCTION
Geosynthetics is a generic term which includes geotextiles, geomemebranes, geogrids, geonets, and geocomposites and all other similar materials used by civil engineers to improve or modify soil or rock behavior. Geosynthetics have found on import place in engineering and construction Projects. They have become a integral part of the solution to many civil engineer’s problem.
The various geosynthetics products assure the complete range of quality.Geosynthetics have increasingly providednsolution where no other technique are economically viable.this has led to the use of geosynthetics in an increasing arry of sophisticated and long term structures.
