Objectives
• Students will practice grammar skills.

• using tools in word processing software to assist in learning gammar
Programs Needed
• word processing software such as Microsoft Word
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Teach/review the grammar skills necessary with students.
2. Create a template for the grammar skill you would like to reinforce. See example templates
on the next few pages.
3. Allow students to take turns at the computer completing the grammar template. There are a
variety of formats that you can have students use as they complete the templates.
• If you wish to have students bold the text, have them highlight it and click on the B on the
toolbar.
• If you wish to have students italicize the text, have them highlight it and click on the I on the
toolbar.
• If you wish to have students underline the text, have them highlight it and click on the U on the
toolbar.
• If you wish to have students change the font color, have them highlight the text,
click on the A or the Font Color: box at the end of the toolbar, and select a new
color.
• If you wish to have students highlight the text in a different color, have them
highlight the text and then click on the Highlighter tool.
• If you wish students to insert a comment, have them click on the Insert menu and then select
Comment.
Extension Ideas
• Students can create their own grammar templates for their peers, or they could take paragraphs
from stories they have finished reading and retype the paragraphs into word processing
documents. Then they could use various formatting options to diagram the parts of the sentences.
