PROBLEM DEFINITION
INTRODUCTION:
The earlier system had some flaws such as it maintained the record manually and hence it was becoming a tedious process and to overcome them, the new software is been developed so as to provide
1.Easy user interface
2.User friendliness
3.Easy to operate
4.Portability.
PROBLEM DEFINITION:
The new software developed will provide the above given facilities to the user operating this so as to let them have an easy access and provide them with a proper way of interacting with the system.
The project of Hostel Management System provides some modules such as
• Room Allocation
• Mess Bill Management
• Student Leave Report
• Hostel Attendance Record
• Student Details
• Room Details
• Hostel Details
PRELIMINARY SURVEY
A survey is a study of all the facilities required by the user of the software to get from the user.In that the preliminary survey means the interaction done with the customer and the developer to decide which modules should be included in the project development. The preliminary survey can also be only from one side i.e. one side observation. The one side observation means the developer observes the flaws or the drawbacks of the earlier existing system and then gather the requirements and the changes to be done for the system accordingly. The developer checks out for the need to develop the new system. In our project of “Hostel management” we did a one side observation that means we checked for the flaws and the modules which lack in the earlier system & hence we tend to develop the new system .And hence we will develop it according the flaws which we observed & which are required by the customer.
DRAWBACKS OF EARLIER SYSTEM:
Manual Work i.e. the records are maintained manually.
More paper work.
Time consuming.
Difficult to retrieve the old data.
Lenghty process.
