INTRODUCTION
Eye movement –based interaction is an exemplar of a new, more general class of non-command based user computer interaction.
It was introduced as a new input media that can help redress the imbalance by obtaining the data from the user conveniently and rapidly.
DESCRIPTION
Several measures based upon eye movement locations and scan paths were evaluated, to access their validity for assessment of interface quality.
There are two techniques:
1.Intrusive methods
Ex: such as glasses, head band etc.
2.Non-intrusive methods
Ex: image processing techniques.
Characteristics of eye movements
The eye : The retina of the eye is not uniform. The central portion (fovea) covers a field of view that provides sharpest visual acuity. Anything outside this area is seen as ‘peripheral vision’.
Types of eye movements: Saccades take approximately 30-120 milli seconds and traverse a range between 1 and 40 degrees of visual angle. Some other eye movements are nystagmus and when the object is moving.
CONCLUSION
The researchers in this field concentrated on interaction techniques that can naturally and conveniently incorporate eye movements into a user computer dialogue.
Finally we can view eye movement-based interaction as an emerging new style of user-computer interaction.
