Introduction
In modern era most of the appliances are using high voltages due to need of high amount of power covering the power system, industry and research laboratories to sustain modern civilisation. So this paper describes how to use high voltages to fullfill high demand of consumers
Voltage
Voltage is the difference in electrical potential energy(the ability to do work).
High- Voltage
The term high voltage usually means electrical energy at voltages high enough to inflict harm or death upon living things
Motivation And Objective
To overcome the modern energy demand, it’s required highly complex and reliable power system, for that it’s very much essential to develop the low voltage into a certain high voltage.
High-voltage engg. Is used every distribution system in India.
The main objective is how high voltage occur & it breaks the insulation and to overcome this problem.
High Voltage DC Transmission (HVDC)
Transmission of high amounts of electrical power over long lines (> 1000 km)
Sub-sea power links (submarine cables)No compensation of reactive power necessary
Coupling of grids with different network frequency.
Asynchronous operation.
Low couple – power.
Overhead Lines
Insulating Material: Air
High voltages are easy to handle with sufficient distances/clearances and lengths
Permitted phase wire temperature of phase wires is determined by mechanical strength
Overhead lines are defined by their natural power PNat
Thermal Power limit is a multiple of PNat
ELECTRICAL BREAK DOWN
Progressive formation of conducting paths, which are produced on the surface and/or within a solid insulating material, due to the combined effects of electric stress and electrolytic contamination
Partial Discharges
Disruptive Discharges or, Arcing
Conclusion
Equipment and conductors that carry high voltage
warrant particular safety requirements and procedures. In
certain industries, high voltage means voltage above a
particular threshold . High voltage is used in
electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to
generate X-rays and particle beams, to demonstrate arcing,
for ignition, in photomultiplier tubes, and in high power
amplifier vacuum tubes and other industrial and scientific
applications
