INTRODUCTION
Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmed behavior. It is application of knowledge. It gives people an awareness of the rules and procedures so as to guide their behavior. It attempts to improve their performance on their current job or prepare them for an intended job.
Development is a related process and it covers not only those activities, which improve job performance, but also those, which brings about the growth of the personality and helps the individuals in the progress towards maturity and actualization of their potential capacity so that they become not only effective employee but also better citizen.
Training and development are a process that attempts to provide an employee with information, skill, and an understanding of the organization and its goals. In addition, training and development are designed to help a person continue to make positive contributions in the forms of good performance.
In the current business scenario, the IT sector is playing a major role and is providing employment opportunities to the maximum number of potential workforce. Organizations are lacking in concentrating on the development of the employees instead they are concentrating on the development of the business. The fact is that without the employees the business is nothing. In the famous quote from the Chief Mentor of Infosys, Mr. Narayanamoorthy, it is said “the most valuable asset of my organization goes in the evening and comes back the next day” i.e., the employees.
INDUSTRY PROFILE:
The information technology (IT) industry has become one of the most robust industries in the world. IT, more than any other industry or economic facet, has an increased productivity, particularly in the developed world, and, therefore, is a key driver of global economic growth. Economies of scale and insatiable demand from both consumers and enterprises characterize this rapidly growing sector. The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) explains the “information technology” as encompassing all possible aspects of information systems based on computers.
Both software development and the hardware involved in the IT industry include everything from computer systems, to the design, implementation, study and to development of IT and to management systems. Owing to its easy accessibility and the wide range of IT products available, the demand for IT services has increased substantially over the years.
Data storage
Early electronic computers such as Colossus made use of punched tape, a long strip of paper on which data was represented by a series of holes, a technology now obsolete. Electronic data storage as used in modern computers dates from the Second World War, when a form of delay line memory was developed to remove the clutter from radar signals, the first practical application of which was the mercury delay line. The first random-access digital storage device was the Williams tube, based on a standard cathode ray tube,[15] but the information stored in it and delay line memory was volatile in that it had to be continuously refreshed, and thus was lost once power was removed. The earliest form of non-volatile computer storage was the magnetic drum, invented in 1932 and used in the Ferranti Mark 1, the world's first commercially available general-purpose electronic computer.
