Prior to Hybrid Vehicle Operation
If for any reason you are uncomfortable operating this vehicle, stop now and ask for another vehicle. You may contact Fleet Service’s Motor Pool Section and request another vehicle.
Sticking or Uncontrolled Acceleration Guidelines
In the event you are faced with an accelerator that is sticking, it is recommended by both the vehicle manufacturer, Fleet Services and Risk Management that you do the following:
Don’t Panic!
The vehicle can be controlled by stepping on the brake pedal with both feet using firm and steady pressure. DO NOT pump the brake pedal – this will deplete the vacuum utilized for the power brake assist.
Move the transmission gear shifter to the left into the Neutral “N” position and hold it in the neutral position until the gear indicator on the dash reads “N” and you feel the vehicle begin to slow down.
Steer the car to a safe, out of the way place.
Keeping pressure on the brakes, the car will come to a stop.
