Idea of the project: In computational linguistics, word-sense disambiguation (WSD) is an open problem of natural language processing and ontology. WSD is identifying which sense of a word (i.e. meaning) is used in a sentence, when the word has multiple meanings. The solution to this problem impacts other computer-related writing, such as discourse, improving relevance of search engines, anaphora resolution, coherence, inference et cetera.
We aim to make software that gives the correct sense of a word according the context using WSD technique. The sentence/paragraph containing the word will be taken as input along with the word to be processed. The system will then check the domain of the word using WordNet and gives the correct meaning of the word. Word Net is an open source large lexical database of English. Nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are grouped into sets of cognitive synonyms (synsets), each expressing a distinct concept. Synsets are interlinked by means of conceptual-semantic and lexical relations.
The operating system requires is Windows OS. We develop the system in Java language. We plan to use Eclipse IDE for development purpose.
