PRINCIPLE OF WORKING OF A STEAM TURBINE:
A steam turbine works on the principle of conversion of High pressure &temperature steam into high Kinetic energy, thereby giving torque to amoving rotor.For above energy conversion there is requirement of converging /Converging-Diverging Sections, Such above requirement is built up in thespace between two consecutive bladesof fixed and moving blades rows.
TYPES OF STEAM TURBINES:
Steam turbines are classified on the
(1)EXTRACTION TURBINES: controlled and uncontrolled extraction
(2)ON THE BASIS OF GOVERNING: throttle and nozzle governing
(3)ON THE BASIS OF TYPE OF INJECTION
LOSSES IN STEAM TURBINES:
Losses in steam turbines are classified into
(a) Primary losses
1. Pressure loss in steam strainer.
2. Leakage loss.
3. Leaving velocity loss.
4. Partial admission loss.
5. Disk friction loss.
