Abstracts: Friction stir welding is a solid state welding process in which a non-consumable rotating tool with a specially designed pin and shoulder is inserted into the abutting edges of sheets or plates to be joined and subsequently traversed along the joint line. Our objective is to check the feasibility of friction stir welding on VMC (Vertical Machining Center) and to investigate and analyze the parameters of FSW process. Our aim is to find out the effects of the process parameters on the performance parameters. This project will give us a clear idea about the effects of process parameters on mechanical properties hence a co-relation between process parameters and performance parameters can be developed.A mathematical model is to be developed to predict the mechanical properties such as Tensile strength, Yield strength and Percentage elongation. The validation of the mathematical model for accuracy is to be checked by ANOVA software and confirmation test.
