Abstract
This paper conducts an investigation on the impact of power control technique over
multicast routing protocol, the protocol selected is ODMRP, mesh based routing protocol.
On-Demand multicast routing protocol scheme is tested with 802.11 and 802.11b MAC
protocols. This investigation is done to determine mainly the influence of different MAC
solutions, reduction in power conception of overall network by the DPC mechanism, and
also to check degradation of performance with respect to other figure of merits. The im-
portant figures of merits are average delay and packet delivery faction. A simulation study
is done to compare the various solutions and simulation is done by using Simple Ad hoc
siMulator.
receivers
which are identified by a single host id. Multicasting is used for group oriented computing.
It is an efficient way of group communication in an ad hoc network. Ad hoc network
is collection of hosts without a fixed infrastructure. MANET is a mobile ad hoc network.
MANET can be used for multicasting and group oriented applications. In an ad hoc network
battery provides the power to the entire network, and each node in the network can act
as a router, so power should provide to every nodes in the network. This power is limited.
Because of this reason power saving and efficient routing scheme is needed.
ODMRP is selected because it is a mesh based routing protocol and mesh topology
is more suitable for the wireless ad hoc network. In this paper we study possible energy
optimization for On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol. DPC is selected as the energy
optimization technique.DPC acts both at MAC and Network layers. DPC evaluate hop-byhop
power conception rate and reduce the overall power conception by selecting suitable
path. ODMRP should be modified to apply the DPC mechanism by appropriately redefining
the cost function associated with each link. To evaluate the impact of DPC over ODMRP a
simulation is done using a SAM simulator
