EXCHANGE RATE
Meaning
An exchange rate (also known as a foreign-exchange rate, forex rate, FX rate) between two currencies is the rate at which one currency will be exchanged for another. It is also regarded as the value of one country’s currency in terms of another currency.
For example, an exchange rate of 50 Indian Rupees (INR) to the United States Dollar (USD) means that Rs.50 will be exchanged for each US$ 1 or that US$ 1 will be exchanged for each Rs. 50
Quotation
A currency pair is the quotation of the relative value of a currency unit against the unit of another currency in the foreign exchange market. The quotation USD/INR 50 means that 1 US$ is exchanged for 50 INR. Here, US$ is called the "base currency" or "unit currency", while INR (Indian Rupees) is called the "term currency" or "price currency".
