Indian Oil Corporation Limited, a Maharatna Company, is an Indian state-owned oil and gas company headquartered at New Delhi, India.
It is India’s largest commercial enterprise, ranking 98th on the Fortune Global 500 list in 2011.
Indian Oil and its subsidiaries account for a 47% share in the petroleum products market, 34.8% share in refining capacity and 67% downstream sector pipelines capacity in India.
The Indian Oil Group of Companies owns and operates 10 of India's 20 refineries with a combined refining capacity of 65.7 million metric tons per year.
Indian Oil operates the largest and the widest network of fuel stations in the country, numbering about 17606 (15557 regular ROs & 2049 Kissan Sewa Kendra).
It has also started Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS). It supplies Indane cooking gas to over 47.5 million households through a network of 4,990 Indian distributors.
In addition, Indian Oil's Research and Development Center (R&D) at Faridabad supports, develops and provides the necessary technology solutions to the operating divisions of the corporation and its customers within the country and abroad. Subsequently, Indian Oil Technologies Limited - a wholly owned subsidiary, was set up in 2003, with a vision to market the technologies developed at Indian Oil's Research and Development Center.
Panipat Refinery Overview
Panipat Refinery, the youngest refinery among IOCL is an eco-friendly refinery, commissioned in 1998. It is located in Baholi village, Panipat, Haryana. Panipat is the seventh refinery belonging to Indian Oil Corporation Limited. The cost of the refinery's construction was Rs 9024 crore.
It is the most integrated refinery and petroleum complex in the world after commissioning of PX-PTA and NCP.

Panipat Refinery has doubled its refining capacity from 6 MMTPA to 12 MMTPA with the commissioning of its Expansion Project and further to meet the increasing demand AVU-1 was revamped in Oct`10 to increase the capacity to 15MMPA. Panipat Refinery is the seventh refinery of Indian Oil. It is located in the historic district of Panipat in the state of Haryana and is about 23 km from Panipat City. The original refinery with 6 MMTPA capacity was built and commissioned in 1998 at a cost of Rs. 3868 crore (which includes Marketing & Pipelines installations).

Implementation of Euro-IV equivalent norms in Metros & Major Cities (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur, Agra, Lucknow & Solapur )on 1st April 2010
To meet Euro-IV norms IOCL has to set up MSQIP in Panipat Refinery
MSQ plants already exists in IOC’s Haldia, Mathura and Gujarat Refinery.
