INTRODUCTION:-
This paper attempts to show how energy can be tapped and used at a commonly used system- the road speed breakers. The number of vehicles passing over the speed breaker in roads is increasing day by day. A large amount of energy is wasted at the speed also throughbreakers through the dissipation of heat and
Friction, every time a vehicle passes over it. There is great possibility of tapping this energy and generating power by making the speed-breaker as a power generation unit. The generated power can be used for the lamps, near the speedbreakers.
ABSTRACT:-
This project harvests energy from speed breaker by making gear arrangement and using electronic gadgets. Large amounts amount of electricity can be generated saving lot of money. And if implemented will be very beneficial for Government. When vehicle is in motion it produces various forms of energy like, due to friction between vehicle’s wheel and road i.e. rough surface HEAT Energy is produced, also
when vehicle traveling at high speed strikes the wind. The principle involved is POTENTIAL ENERGY TO ELECTRICAL ENERGYCONVERSION. There is a system to generate power by converting the potential energy generated by a vehicle going up on a speed breaker into kinetic energy. When
vehicle moves over the inclined plates, it gains height resulting in increase in potential energy, which is wasted in a conventional rumble strip. When the breaker comes down, they crank a lever fitted to a ratchet-wheel type mechanism (an angular motion converter) which in turn rotates a geared shaft loaded with recoil springs. The output of this shaft is coupled to a dc-gen.to convert kinetic energy into electricity.
This attempts to show how man has been utilizing energy and to explore prospects of optimizing the same. Researches show that the world has already had its enough shares of its energy resources. Fossil fuels pollute the environment. Nuclear energy requires careful handling of both raw as well as waste material. The focus now is shifting more and more towards the renewable sources of energy, which are essentially, non-polluting.The utilization of energy is an indication ofthe growth of a nation. One might conclude that to be materially rich and prosperous, a human being needs toconsume more and more energy. And this paper is best source of energy that we get in dayto day life.
III. WORKING PRINCIPLE:-
The project is concerned with generation of electricityfrom speed breakers-like set up. The load acted upon thespeed breaker - setup is there by transmitted to rack and pinion arrangement.
Here the reciprocating motion of the speed-breaker isconverted into rotary motion using the rack and pinionarrangement. The axis of the pinion is coupled with thesprocket arrangement. The sprocket arrangement is made of two sprockets. One of larger size and the other of smallersize. Both the sprockets are connected by means of a chainwhich serves in transmitting power from the larger sprocketto the smaller sprocket. As the power is transmitted from thelarger sprocket to the smaller sprocket, the speed that isavailable at the larger sprocket is relatively multiplied at therotation of the smaller sprocket.
The axis of the smaller sprocket is coupled to a geararrangement. Here we have two gears with differentdiameters. The gear wheel with the larger dimension is
coupled to the axis of the smaller sprocket. Hence the speedthat has been multiplied at the smaller sprocket wheel ispassed on to this gear wheel of larger dimension. Thesmaller gear is coupled to the larger gear. So as the largergear rotates at the multiplied speed of the smaller sprocket, the smaller gear following the larger gear still multiplies thespeed to more intensity.Hence, although the speed due to the rotary motionachieved at the larger sprocket wheel is less, as the power istransmitted to gears, finally the speed is multiplied to ahigher speed. This speed which is sufficient to rotate therotor of a generator is fed into to the rotor of a generator. The rotor which rotates within a static magnetic stator cuts
the magnetic flux surrounding it, thus producing the electromotive force (emf). This generated emf is then sent to aninverter, where the generated emf is regulated. Thisregulated emf is now sent to the storage battery where it isstored during the day time. This current is then utilized inthe night time for lighting purposes on the either sides of theroad to a considerable distance.
BASIC PRINCIPLES:-
1- Simple energy conversion from mechanical to electrical
2-to generate electricity using the vehicle kinetic energy as input
3-we can develop electricity from speed breakers
They are using 3 different mechanisms:-
1-Roller mechanism
2-Rack- Pinion mechanism
3- Crank-shaft mechanism
