Let us start by understanding what broadband phone service is. Broadband phone service is also called VOIP. This is Voice Over Internet Protocol. So, what is Internet Protocol? Internet Protocol or IP was made for data communication or data networking. This success of data networking has led to the birth of voice networking, VOIP to put it very simply, it is the transfer of voice over Internet based Networks. The success of broadband phone service or VOIP is catching on now more than ever, especially with the world becoming seemingly small and connectable. Globalization has caught on and so has VOIP. One of the greatest benefits of broadband phone service or VOIP is the cost factor. Using the broadband phone service to make international calls is perhaps cheaper than your monthly bill to the local telephone company. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection (most people have it anyway) and you are ready to go.
Advantages of Broadband Service
Low Cost: quite obviously this is one of the main reasons why people choose this technology. With the broadband phone service you are not only saving big bucks but you are getting technology at its best. You can use a PC-to-PC service virtually free, but if you have to use a Phone-to-PC service then you will have to pay a service fee, which is quite nominal compared to the money you would be saving on the whole.
Low Taxes: as the technology uses the Internet network to transfer calls the government does not tax VOIP phone services. The taxes of broadband phone service will be very low compared to those on your local telephone service.
Portability: the best thing about VOIP other than its low cost is its portability. You can use it anywhere by simply logging into your VOIP account and using a broadband connection. So whether you are sitting in America or Argentina makes no difference you can still continue making your calls.
Disadvantage of Broadband
No service during power failure: unlike your regular phone line, broadband phone service depends on electricity and power connections. So if there is a storm, thundershowers or snow and the electricity is out you cant use the broadband phone service.
Emergency calls: in case of any emergency your instinct is to pick up the phone and call 911 and your call will be traced to where you are and help will be sent immediately. But if you are using a VOIP service your location cannot be traced because it uses an IP address, which is not a physical address. This is a major concern among most users and something you should be aware of.
Reliability: your broadband phone service depends on your Internet service. In any event that your Internet connection is slow or not working, your broadband phone service also will not work.
Voice Quality: the voice quality in a broadband phone service is quite poor and one of the main drawbacks of broadband phone service
Security: another major concern, as with all things using the Internet is security. Identity and service theft are a major concern and so is virus and malware.
Advantages of leased lines
Leased lines have a number of advantages:
- Secure and private - dedicated exclusively to the customer - Speed – symmetrical, uncontended and direct - Reliable – private circuit local loops are a premium product supported by fast time to fix guarantees - Resilience – redundancy and separacy can be incorporated to reduce outages - Wide choice of speeds – bandwidth on demand, easily upgradeable - Dependable - leased lines are suitable for in-house office web hosting
Bandwidth can range from 64kbps through to 10 Gbps.
Leased lines are suitable for various applications. There are no restrictions for leased line use so long as the correct size/speed line will support your business in future
