What is an “Audiometer”?
An audiometer is an electronic instrument which measures hearing sensitivity through the use of calibrated pure-tone signals of known frequency and intensity.
It is used for evaluating hearing loss.
Parts Of The Human Ear
The three main parts of the human ear are
* Outer ear
* Middle ear
* Inner ear
Each section has specific parts and functions involved in transmitting sound waves.
Middle ear
The below picture represents the parts of the Middle Ear: the eardrum, the malleus, the incus, and the stapes. These are called the ossicles and are the three smallest bones in the body.
Disorders of Hearing
External ear:
whenever the acoustic pathway is blocked due to swelling or accumulation of foreign bodies,the hearing capacity of ear will reduced.
Middle ear:
Hearing may be affected by middle ear defects such as perforated ear drum,diseased cochlea etc.Due to these there is a mismatch of impedence between air and bone conduction.
