History of Rail in India
The history of rail transport in India began in the mid-nineteenth century.
The railways in India were a group of privately owned companies. The military engineers of the East India Company, later of the British Indian Army, contributed to the birth and growth of the railways which gradually became the responsibility of civilian technocrats and engineers.
Drawbacks
Today the railways have become more important in our national economy than all other means of transport put together. However, rail transport suffers from certain problems as well.
Many passengers travel without tickets. Thefts and damaging of railway property has not stopped completely. People stop trains, pull the chain unnecessarily and causes heavy damage to the railway.
Due to lack of security, women and children refuse to travel long distances through these trains. There is also lack of cleanliness and order at most stations of the railway
Pipelines
In past pipelines played a really major role in transporting water and other substances to cities and industries.
Now due to development and increase in production and other sectors it plays a crucial role in supplying and transporting :
Crude oil
Petroleum product like-: natural gas etc.
these products are transported to fertilizer factories and big thermal power plants etc.
