There are two ways to go to Shimla:
a) One is by Road
b) Second is by Train
In this article, we will discuss about the Journey by way of Road
The distance between Chandigarh to Shimla is around 120 km. The four laning project involves the
creation of 11 tunnels between Shimla and Kothi to help reduce the distance by 19 km. The total length
of the tunnels will be 9.5 km.The emphasis will be on reducing the travel time.
1 First station is Pinjore in which Pinjore Garden is situated. Pinjore Gardens also known as
Yadavindra Gardens is located in Pinjore, Panchkula district in the Indian state of Haryana. It
is an example of the Mughal Gardens style. The second terrace with arched doorways has
the "Rang Mahal" (painted palace). The third terrace has cypress trees and flowerbeds
leading to dense groves of fruit trees. The next terrace has the "Jal Mahal" (palace of water)
with a square fountain bed and a platform to relax. Fountains and tree groves are provided
in the next terrace.
2 Second famous station is Kalka from which Kalka Shimla Train is running. The Kalka–Shimla
Railway is narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous
route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding
villages. The Kalka–Shimla Railway was built in 1898. to connect Shimla, the summer capital
of India during the British Raj, with the rest of the Indian rail system.
3 Second stationis Timber Trail. A resort with a cable car called Timber Trail is a few miles
north of the town on the Shimla highway again.A newly built hotel with spacious and luxurious
rooms by the name of Hotel Royal Regency having very reasonable rates is also located on
Kasauli Road.
4 Dharampur is a town located in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh It is about 65 km from
Shimla and 15 km from Kasauli on the National Highway no. 22. Dharampur situated on the
Chandigarh - Shimla Highway. It is also connected to Kalka through toy train.
The another station is Solan. Solan is the district headquarters of Solan district (created on 1
September 1972) in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. At an average elevation of 1,600 metres
(5,200 ft). The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini devi. Kandaghat is a small town & Tehsil
(sub-district) in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India which is situated on the Kalka-Shimla
National Highway No. 22. The road to the famous tourist destination of Chail turns from Kandaghat
which is at a distance of 29 km. The capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla (earlier called Simla) is at a
distance of 30 km.
5 Now you reaches to shimla.
The Mall is the main shopping street of Shimla. It also has many restaurants, clubs,
banks, bars, post offices and tourist offices. The Gaiety Theatre is also situated there.
Church Situated on the Ridge Christ Church is the second oldest church. It has a very
majestic appearance and inside there are stained glass windows which represent faith,
hope, charity, fortitude, patience and humility.
Jakhu Hill: 2 km from Shimla, at a height of 8,000 ft, Jakhu Hill is the highest peak an
offers a beautiful view of the town and of the snow-covered Himalayas. At the top of the
hill, is an old temple of Lord Hanuman, which is also the home of countless playful
monkeys waiting to be fed by all visitors.
Shimla State Museum: The museum, which was opened in 1974, has tried to protect hillout
and the cultural wealth of the state. There is a collection of miniature Pahari
paintings, sculptures, bronzes wood-carvings and also costumes, textiles and jewellery of
the region.
Summer Hill is Situated at a distance of 5 km from the Ridge is the lovely township of
Summer Hill, at a height of 6,500 ft on the Shimla-Kalka railway line.
Tara Devi: 11 km from the Shimla bus-stand. Tara Devi Hill has a temple dedicated to
the goddess of stars on top of the hill.
Sankat Mochan: A very famous Lord Hanuman temple is located here.
Mashobra: 13 km from Shimla, site of the annual Sipi fair in June.
Kufri 16 km from Shimla at a height of 8,600 ft, Kufri is the local winter sports centre,
and it also has a small zoo.
Chail was built as summer retreat by the Maharaja of Patiala during the British Raj, it is
known for its cricket pitch, the highest in the world.
Tattapani: Location of sulphur springs which are found near the Tatapani mandir (holy
temple)
New Shimla: The main residential area of Shimla.
