im having BE project on Optimization of composite shaft for weight reduction and im finding difficulty in using matlab for orientation as well as to find thickness s help me in it.
The shaft is a most common and important machine element. Shafts are widely used mechanical components that are used to transmit power through devices such as gears and pulleys. The shaft is generally driven by the moment of bending, torsion and axial force. The design of the shaft involves mainly the determination of the stresses at the critical point of the shaft that is being produced due to the load mentioned above. The friction and other losses in this type of power transmission equipment are comparatively very low. In this work we use a software called "MATLAB" to write a program to design an axis. MATLAB is widely used for scientific and research purposes. It is precise and also has a number of built-in functions that makes it versatile. Still MATLAB is not being effectively used in the field of mechanical engineering. At present there is no MATLAB code for the design of axes. Our MATLAB code works for all solid axes assembled with
Number of pulleys and gears. The program is easy to use and when it runs, it asks the inputs and performs the necessary design calculations and provides the required output values. We have taken into account both the maximum shear stress theory and the maximum normal stress theory. It also generates the diagrams for horizontal, vertical and resulting bending moments on the shaft lengths. As computers are used to perform the task the shaft design becomes simple, fast, friendly and error-free.
