. Introduction
MCA5050 – Seminar of 2 credits is part of MCA – 5
th semester curriculum. This is being introduced
to make the students familiarize, to carry out a literature survey, presentation and report
preparation skills.
Seminar is included to inculcate an active learning platform wherein students can develop the
ability to read critically and conceptually, and therefore to present and develop a report.
2. Guidelines
Topics chosen for seminar should be related to Computer Applications or Information Technology.
It is should be of topical in nature. The seminar should provide an active learning format in which
students can develop the ability to read critically and conceptually, and therefore to speak and
write.
Student is required to identify a mentor (faculty) to complete his seminar requirement.
Consultation sessions with the mentors should be arranged as per mutual convenience. The
mentor will help the student in identifying a seminar topic inline to the prescribed guidelines,
counsel and also review the progress.
As part of the requirement the student need to prepare a Report in consultation with the mentor
(Refer Appendix).
Seminar Preparation and Submission Guideline
Seminar work must be done individually.
Students can select any recent computer science related topic
The completed seminar report is to be submitted to University by uploading it on EduNxt for
evaluation within the prescribed time.
Upload file size 2 MB (max.), file format supported: .doc, .docx,.pdf
The University will evaluate the seminar report for the award of both IA and UE marks.
3. Topics for Seminar
Students can select any recent computer science related topic. Few topics are given below as an indicator.

4. Format for preparation of seminar report
The length of the report may be about 30 to 40 pages, with 1.5 line spacing, 1.25 inches margin
on either side, printed on A4 size papers. Ten percent variation on either side is permissible.
4.1. Arrangement of contents:
The sequence in which the seminar report material should be arranged and bound
should be as follows:
1. Cover Page & Title Page
2. Certificate
3. Acknowledgement
4. Abstract
5. Table of Contents
6. List of Tables – if any
7. List of Figures – if any
8. Chapters
9. References
The table and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.
4.2. Page dimension and binding specifications:
The dimension of the seminar report should be in A4 size.
4.3. Preparation format:
1 Abstract – Abstract should be one page synopsis of the seminar report typed 1.5
line spacing, Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12.
2 Table of Contents – A specimen copy of the Table of Contents of the seminar
report is given in Appendix
3 List of Tables & List of Figures – The list should use exactly the same captions
as they appear above the tables in the text. One and a half spacing should be
adopted for typing the matter under this head.
4 Chapters – The chapters may be broadly divided into 3 parts (i) Introductory
chapter, (ii) Chapters developing the main theme of the seminar (iii) and
Conclusion.
The main text will be divided into several chapters and each chapter may be further
divided into several divisions and sub-divisions.
Each chapter should be given an appropriate title.
Tables and figures in a chapter should be placed in the immediate vicinity of
the reference where they are cited.
5 List of References –The listing of references should be typed 4 spaces below the
heading “REFERENCES” in alphabetical order in single spacing left – justified. The
reference material should be listed in the alphabetical order of the first author. The
name of the author/authors should be immediately followed by the year and other
details.
4.4. Typing Instructions
One and a half spacing should be used for typing the general text. The general text shall be typed in the Font style ‘Times New Roman’ and Font size 12
