OBJECTIVE:
The aim of the project is to Mitigate The Voltage Sag and Swell using DPFC, with three different control schemes –
1. Central controller
2. Series Control
3. Shunt Control.
In DPFC, several single-phase series distributed converters connected to a transmission line.
About Power Quality problems:
Power quality is defined as the index which both the delivery and consumption of electric power affect on the performance of electrical apparatus.
From a customer point of view, a power quality problem can be defined as any problem is manifested on voltage, current, or frequency deviation that results in power failure
Power Quality:
The term "power quality" refers to the voltage stability, frequency stability, and the absence of various forms of electrical noise (e.g. flicker or harmonic distortion) on the electrical grid.
More broadly speaking, power companies (and their customers) prefer an alternating current with a nice sinusoidal shape.
ADVANTAGES OF FACTS DEVICES:
Power flow control.
Increase in transmission capability.
Voltage control.
Reactive power compensation.
Stability improvement.
Power quality improvement.
Power conditioning.
Interconnection of renewable and distributed generation plants.
INTRODUCTION TO DPFC:
The DPFC is a device which can control simultaneously all three parameters of line power flow
Such "new" FACTS device combines together the features of two "old" FACTS devices:
1. Shunt Converter
2. Series Converters.
These two devices are two Voltage Source Inverters (VSI’s) connected respectively in shunt with the transmission line through a shunt transformer and in series with the transmission line through a series transformer.
The shunt inverter is used for voltage regulation at the point of connection injecting an opportune reactive power flow into the line and to balance the real power flow exchanged between the series inverter and the transmission line.
The series inverter can be used to control the real and reactive line power flow inserting an opportune voltage with controllable magnitude and phase in series with the transmission line.
