MOBILE APPLICATIONS IN AFRICA
With the growing population of mobile device owners in Africa, mobile technology is becoming more popular and is finding meaning. This is undoubtedly because of the efficiency and reliability of mobile technology in performing the daily activities. In Africa, more than 40% of the population now owns mobile devices and at least 70% of the population is able to access mobile services.
In the past, small-scale farmers lacked transparent information about market prices. With the development of mobile applications, they can now have access to such vital information to enable them improve timing of marketing their products and negotiating better deals with the traders.
Mobile technology is also involved in Communications Access and Infrastructure Education Livelihood & Economic Development Public Health Education and Awareness
Google web giant has been on the forefront to develop and avail mobile applications that will ease most of Africa’s production difficulties. Among the remarkable applications that google has launched in the market are: Quick Search Box, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube that enables one to browse videos or upload their own, Latitude that enables one to see their friends' locations on a map, Buzz that enables one to see buzz around them and tag posts with their location, Google shopper and Google indicator.
With Google as the torch bearer, this technology will become an integral part in the life of Africa, to increase productivity. Google have already proved their prowess trough the wonderful products and services they offer in the market.
