Manual and GSM Electronic Voting Machine with Enhanced Security ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT
EVMs are used worldwide in almost all of the developing and developed countries. On
the context of Nepal, EVM was used on the General Election on Kathmandu region no.
1.
Local based voting system is implemented in many regions of Nepal but it’s not used
widely. As far the neighbors are concerned, India, China, Bhutan and many other
countries use EVM to vote in almost all of the voting processes. Many types of EVMs
are
used worldwide. This EVM consist of simple, reliable, economical and convenient
system of voting using voting switches and GSM communication.
The project “Electronic Voting Machine” is the study and design of microcontroller
based system in the voting system. EVM consist mainly of five units:-
1) Administrator Unit
2) Manual Voting Unit
3) GSM Voting Unit
4) Control and Memory Unit
5) Display Unit
The administrator unit allows voting for manual voters when the code entered by them is
matched with the codes on the database and also those data were not used before.
After
voting, microcontroller goes on sleep mode for 30 seconds. AT this time interval, the
voter can’t vote any further votes to ensure one vote per person. This process is
continued until the end of voting.
In case of GSM voting, the voter sends SMS to the administrator. The SMS should
contain citizenship number, his/her respective password and the vote. The SMS should
be sent through the respective mobile number of the voter. In case, if the data is fake or
if the vote is already registered from that particular mobile number, then the vote is
eventually cancelled by the control unit. This process is continued till the end of the
voting date.
