The popular CDMA 1x EV-DO service is a service that provides high speed always on internet connectivity to the subscribers in a wide-area mobile environment. 2.4 Mbps/153 Kbps is the peak upload/download specified, but the application-layer throughput, which the user experiences , has not been evaluated well.
Introduction
The Code Division Multiplexing Access (CDMA) 1x EVolution-Data Only (EV-DO)
is finalized by the 3GPP and the Telecommunications industry association as the next generation standard for the high soeed internet connectivity. The EVDO also provides a high-speed data solution for existing IS-95 or CDMA 1x service providers. The the frequency and RF modules are presently compatible with it. The High Data Rate (HDR) proposal from Qualcomm, Inc. is the basis for this and many advanced features such as Incremental Redundancy (IR) Hybrid ARQ are available with this. EV-DO system provides large service coverage as well as handover with high bandwidth.
The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), when used in a wireless network faces a number of challenges. The spurious timeout is a matter to be tackled. It is caused by the abruptly increased delay, which in turn triggers the retransmission and congestion control which can delay the network unnecesarily.
