Power Electronic Signaling.ppt (Size: 2.73 MB / Downloads: 33)
INTRODUCTION
The application of power electronics to facilitate the transmission or conversion of electric energy has been well known.
The objective of this paper is to survey and review the developments in this fascinating field
FAULT DETECTION
Power electronics circuits have found many applications in online fault detection. These circuits are utilized to inject small but discernible signals to the system in operation.
Faulted Line Identification in Ungrounded Systems
Generator Ground Fault Detection
HVDC Neutral Ground Fault Detection
Faulted Line Identification in Ungrounded Systems
The power distribution networks in some European and Asian countries, and some industrial power systems in North America are ungrounded, high resistance grounded, or resonant grounded.
These systems can continue to operate when a single-phase-to-ground fault occurs.
ACTIVE PROTECTION SCHEMES
Power electronics components or circuits have found their applications in active protection area as well.
Power Line Signaling Based Transfer Trip Scheme
PT Ferroresonance Protection
Thyristor-Protected Series Capacitors
CONCLUSION
Unlike many well-known power electronic applications such as FACTS devices, the applications reviewed in this paper deploy power electronic devices to manipulate information or signals, not electric energy.
From this perspective, we regard these applications as a new class of power electronics technology and refer them as power electronic signaling technology.
We believe it is the time to recognize this important class of power electronics applications and designate a name for them.
