Introduction
Thank you for installing Merlin. Merlin is a desktop application system for managing ColdFusion
application servers. It is based on the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) and is a licensed service from
FusionLink, Inc. For support and sales questions:
Security
Merlin does use a local and encrypted Sqlite database for saving server settings and configurations.
Licensing and software encryption is provided by the Nitro-LM service.
Merlin remotely manages ColdFusion servers with a desktop application based on the Adobe Integrated
Runtime (AIR). You, as the user, need to be made aware that unless you take certain steps, this
communication could be unencrypted. If you need the data communication to be secure, you have two
options. First, you can use a VPN connection to your servers and simply run Merlin communication
through it. Second, you can use an SSL certificate.
Getting Started
When you first open Merlin, you will be prompted for a login. The product licensing and encryption
are run through Nitro-LM which is a cloud-based license management
system. If you have not use a product which uses Nitro-LM, you will first need to register as a new
user.
ColdFusion Updates and Patches
The server icon may also show special square icons which relate to updates or
patches that need to be installed. The “M” icon is for Merlin CFC updates. If you
see this icon, you can right click on the server icon and choose “Merlin Update” to
have the Merlin CFCs attempt to update themselves. The “U” icon is for ColdFusion
updates, hot fixes or cumulative hot fixes, and finally the “S” is for ColdFusion
security patches. If you see either of these notifications, you can right click on the
server icon and choose “Update or Patch Server”.
Apply Server Updates or Security Patches
Go to 'Tools' and select 'Server Updates and Patches', you will be asked to specify the server and the
type of updates you are inquiring about. Merlin will report back what applies to your version of
ColdFusion and if anything is missing.
ColdFusion Update and Security Patch RSS Feeds
Merlin determines ColdFusion updates and security patches through FusionLink managed RSS feeds
that run through Google's Feedburner. If you direct these lookups else where by modifying the
Config.ini.cfm file. Below is the list of RSS feeds that Merlin is looking for by default.
