Abstracts: This project is dedicated to study of computer networks, IPv4 and IPv6, which is carried out at Regional Telecom Training Center (RTTC), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Ahmedabad. Requirement of IPv6 The world is running out of available IP addresses under the IPv4 protocol. According to reports released in July 2010, it's estimated that there's less than one year before the full IPv4 address table—32-bit numbers used to identify network-connected devices—is completely exhausted. That's 4.3 billion IP addresses, a proverbial drop in the bucket compared to the number of possible addresses provided by IPv6: two to the power of 128. As the population of the world has reached over 6 billion people and the fact of requirement of new applications demanding global IP numbers like 3G mobile services, IPTVs, this clearly shows that there is very shortage of global IP addresses. Besides this, some countries with fewer Ipv4 addresses like countries in Pacific Asia have run out of addresses. From experts’ prediction it is shown that the address space would become critical. To solve this problem introduction of Ipv6 protocol and network has come in picture. The transition of the Ipv4 to Ipv6 protocol has been actual since 1995.Besides solving the shortage of addresses problem, the most dominant problem of Ipv4 is the increasing explosion of route tables. The remedy to this Ipv6 has introduced significant enhancements such as very large address space, in built security, full mobility, better quality of service, improved performance, aggregated routes etc. Actually migration from Ipv4 to Ipv6 has become a fact for organizations all over the world. The Government of India and ministry of IT and communication has started implementation of “National IPv6 Deployment Roadmap”. In their early plan they decided to implement IPV6 network from March 2012. The work is under progress and soon migration process from IPV4 to IPV6 Network will start in our country. Also BSNL is a leading partner in this project and the company assigned task for education and awareness of IPV6 Network. Thus there are many scopes in learning Ipv6 protocol and so we have inspired to do project on “Migration from IPv4 to IPv6 Network” And we decided to do this project at Regional Telecom Training center, Ahmedabad.
