Abstracts: Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) Cranes are widely used machinery in manufacturing and related industries majorly for material and equipment handling. In modern industrial era, the quest for maximum productivity has resulted into higher equipment and material handling capacity at higher operational speeds within the industries. In such scenario where potential of collision damage is so high, it is very essential to ensure a safe working environment. Spring buffers in EOT cranes are used for preventing the collision of travelling bridge and hoist trolley with the extreme ends of their permitted travel which causes damage to the whole structure. The spring buffers used by the manufacturing company were redesigned as per their load requirements in the present work. Also the scope of changing the traditionally used spring material was explored. The CAD models of the desired products as per the design calculations were made using Creo Parametric 2.0. These CAD models were then be critically analyzed using ANSYS Workbench 14.0 and the best suited design was selected. The selected design was then validated by comparing the design calculations and the analysis results. Attempts were made to obtain a more reliable and cost-effective spring buffer.
