Monitoring And Control For Fluid Pump Station
Abstract
This project is monitoring and control for a fluid pump station. The available system consists of eight pumps, six of them are used for water flow and the other two are used for oil flow. The available system used to work manually by opening the valves for the fluids to flow. The system also consists of a control panel that consists of a complicated wiring system that is very difficult to trace or modify.
The proposed system contains a new control panel, which consists of mini contactors, and thermal overload switches which are connected to the pumps. The contactors are switch on by a relay module circuit. The relay circuit is controlled by a microcontroller (AT mega 128). In addition, an AC drive (inverter) is connected to the motors. A pressure and flow sensors will be integrated to the system to measure the pressure and flow at different stages.
The project is focusing on monitoring the performance curve of each pump at different speed. It will monitor the pressure at the inlet and the outlet of the pumps. This system will be controlled by a microcontroller.
As for the control task, it was decided to use a PLC at the beginning of the project but it was very expensive so we decided to use a microcontroller.
