ABSTRACT
India , a country which has gone under so many of changes , be it struggling for freedom by the freedom fighters for the people to establishment of democratic government ,be it providing equality to women as men or if it had been the reservation for minority ,from the development of technology to the rise in economy , the country has seen many changes but there is a section of people who are being ignored in the society by everyone and that section is “SPECIALLY ABLED PEOPLE ” ,the people who have been struggling for a long time for their independence though we got our independence long back . There have been a few efforts made by the people or by the government to realize the worth and capabilities of these special people. Everyday these people have to face new challenges in their life and in that we, who claim to be normal because we are different and more abled then them compel them to live in dark. In this article I would try to focus the life and the challenges these people have to overcome because of irregularities made by the “SELF CLAIM ABLED PEOPLE” and by the government and the opportunities that has to be given to them and the need to realize their worth.
SOCIETY ATTITUDE:-
The attitude of the society towards the disabled people is not at all disabled-friendly. Their disabilities or their physical shortcomings are treated as a type of disease to the people. This discrimination starts from their home itself, they are treated more of as a burden to the family member than to a normal person. Not only discrimination is limited to the home but it has taken a wild form in school or in workplaces .Our Government whose motto is to provide welfare state becomes disabled when the time comes for the fulfillment of the basic necessities of the disabled people.
Infrastructure Problem:-
When there was construction of the buildings, colleges or offices were being made, no one gave a one thought about the people with the physical shortcomings. The infrastructure in India in most places is not at all disabled-friendly. The devices that help remove or reduce disability are called Assistive Technology. Such devices have not been installed and there is no accessibility adaptation for the disabled. The discipline of sociology studies the human social activities with the goal of working towards social welfare. Thus, looking at this situation from sociological perspective, we can clearly see that the disabled individuals are not at benefiting end from this pattern in the society and therefore there is no progress or social welfare.
Lack of transportation facilities:-
Urban and rural public transportation is not accessible to disabled individuals .Transportation infrastructure is deficient .Private carriers taking advantage of the lack of services are causing a rise in price and making adherence to safety procedures difficult. If any facility is given by the government is not being utilized in a proper way because of the maintenance of these services time to time then it is not beneficial rather than it turns out ambiguous.
SOLUTIONS:-
We are the ones who are responsible to behave normally with the disabled people and not the other way around. Thus, we as a society should do more and not just restrain ourselves to the upliftment of the disabled but also explore the nature of disability that is what it is all about so that the inherent problem of viewing the disabled persons as a burden on the society can be removed .the first step towards doing this is through making them more comfortable in their lives by making a disabled- friendly environment.
