PERT / CPM networks are an integral component of Project Management
Furnish a consistent framework for Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control
Illustrate the interdependencies of all tasks.
Can be used to estimate the expected project completion dates
Identify so called critical path and critical activities
Determine the dates on which tasks may be started
Illustrate which tasks must be coordinated to avoid resource or timing conflicts
Indicate which tasks must be run in parallel to achieve the pre determined completion date.
ACTIVITY RELATIONSHIPS
INITIAL ACTIVITIES: Which can start at the outset of the project
CONCURRENT ACTIVITIES: Which can be carried out concurrently
PRECEDING ACTIVITIES: Activities which precede others
SUCCEEDING ACTIVITIES: Activities which follows others
END ACTIVITIES: Activities which are the last ones in the project
