Transformers are dispatched by supplier either –
Fully assembled with all accessories and oil filled
Accessories not fitted but partially oil filled
Accessories not fitted and inert gas filled
It is desirable to erect & commission the transformer soon after receipt at site. If, for any reason, it is to be stored, store it in a dry place, preferably under a shed, on wooden sleepers. If received gas filled, it should be filled with processed oil up to core & windings level and silica gel breather should be fitted and maintained.
Place the transformer on the plinth/rails using crane/derrick or jacks and winches.
Transformer should be lifted only through lifting points provided for this purpose.
Use jacking pads only for jacking the transformer.
Keep clean filtered transformer oil ready for filling in the transformer. Ensure oil characteristics as stipulated by the supplier for the voltage class of the transformer.
If the transformer is received gas filled, fill with oil up to the top yoke level simultaneously releasing the gas through the release valve.
Examine the transformer internally through the inspection covers provided for this purpose for any transit damages. Report any abnormality to supplier.
Any person going up the transformer must first empty his pockets to ensure nothing falls inside.
Secure all tools/spanners with a strong tape so that they can be recovered if dropped in accidentally.
Do not use fibrous materials like cotton waste for cleaning as suspended fibers will adversely affect the characteristics of the oil. Use only cloth.
