Introduction:
Natural resources occur naturally within environments that exist relatively undisturbed by mankind, in a natural form. A natural resource is often characterized by amounts of biodiversity and geodiversity existent in various ecosystems. In Bangladesh we have a many kind of natural resources though we have a lot of scarcity in heavy metal resources.
Natural resources are derived from the environment. Many of them are essential for our survival while others are used for satisfying our wants. Every man-made product is composed of natural resources. A natural resource may exist as a separate entity such as fresh water, and air, as well as a living organism such as a fish, or it may exist in an alternate form which must be processed to obtain the resource such as metal ores, oil, and most forms of energy. In Bangladesh we have the same kind of diversity.
Classification:
Renewability is a very popular topic and many natural resources can be categorized as either renewable or non-renewable:
Renewable resources are ones that can be replenished naturally. Some of these resources, like sunlight, air, wind, etc., are continuously available and their quantity is not noticeably affected by human consumption. Though many renewable resources do not have such a rapid recovery rate, these resources are susceptible to depletion by over-use. Resources from a human use perspective are classified as renewable only so long as the rate of replenishment/recovery exceeds that of the rate of consumption.
Non-renewable resources are resources that form extremely slowly and those that do not naturally form in the environment. Minerals are the most common resource included in this category. By the human perspective, resources are non-renewable when their rate of consumption exceeds the rate of replenishment; a good example of this are fossil fuels, which are in this category because their rate of formation is extremely slow, meaning they are considered non-renewable. Some resources actually naturally deplete in amount without human interference, the most notable of these being radio-active elements such as uranium, which naturally decay into heavy metals. Of these, the metallic minerals can be re-used by recycling them, but coal and petroleum cannot be recycled.
Renewable resource:
This is a natural resource with the ability of being replaced through biological or other natural processes and replenished with the passage of time. Renewable resources are part of our natural environment and form our eco-system. Renewable resources are endangered by industrial developments and growth. They must be carefully managed to avoid exceeding the natural world's capacity to replenish them. A life cycle assessment provides a systematic means of evaluating renewability. This is a matter of sustainability in the natural environment.
Solar radiation, tides, winds, geothermal, biomass and other natural elements are renewable resources of energy now called renewable energies.
Renewable energy
Solar energy is an energy derived directly from the Sun, and is the most abundant source of energy on Earth. The fastest growing type of alternative energy, increasing at 50 percent a year, is the photovoltaic cell, which converts sunlight directly into electricity. The Sun yearly delivers more than 10,000 times the energy that humans currently use.The importance of using solar energy In Bangladesh is being increased. In villages, it is being more favorable to reach.
Wind power is derived from uneven heating of the Earth's surface from the Sun and the warm core. Most modern wind power is generated in the form of electricity by converting the rotation of turbine blades into electrical currents by means of an electrical generator. In windmills, wind energy is used to turn mechanical machinery to do physical work, like crushing grain or pumping water. In the portal regions of Bangladesh, government is planning to improvise the condition of electricity by this.
Hydropower is energy derived from the movement of water in rivers and oceans, and can likewise be used to generate electricity using turbines, or can be used mechanically to do useful work. It is a very common resource. Hydropower appeared centuries ago with the first use of a power turbine to produce electricity. In Kaptai,we are currently using the Hydropower to facilitate people with electricity & run industries.
Oils derived from plants and seeds can be used as a substitute for non-renewable diesel. Methane is also considered as a renewable source of energy.
Protection:
The challenge of conservation is to understand the complex connections among natural resources and balance resource use with protection to ensure an adequate supply for future generations.
UN developed the World Charter for Nature in which it recognised the need to protect nature from further depletion due to human activity by the excessive use of Natural resources. They state the measures needed to be taken at all societal levels, from international right down to individual, to protect nature. They outline the need for sustainable use of natural resources and suggest that the protection of resources should be incorporated into the law system at state and international level.
In Bangladesh, we should also try our best to decrease the use of non-renewable natural resources to save the fute of human kind.
Management:
Natural resource management is a discipline in the management of natural resources such as land, water, soil, plants and animals, with a particular focus on how management affects the quality of life for both present and future generations.Management of natural resources involves identifying who has the right to use the resources and who does not for defining the boundaries of the resource. The resources are managed by the users according to the rules governing of when and how the resource is used depending on local condition.
Bangladesh Government have formed different Ministries to save their Natural resources and it is an unpredictable process.
Conclusion:
Natural resources are all the things on Earth that support life. Plants, animals, air, and water are natural resources. Natural resources are also things that people use to make life easier. Consumption of natural resources rises dramatically every year as the human population increases and standards of living rise in our country. In spite of any obstruction, we should learn the best use of our Natural resources to have a smooth life and protect the future of Bangladesh too.
