Why organic electronics?
Do not require ultra clean environment .
Materials can be chemically tuned and can be used as per requirement .
Resemblance to biological material (DNA also a type of polymer) may assist understanding of biological system .
Organic semiconductors combines advantages of both semiconductor and polymers .
Polymers are light weight , has flexibility , and simple to process .
INTRODUCTION
IN 1977 while studying about polymerization one researcher accidently added more catalyst than required which result in formation of silvery film on surface of liquid .
One question arises that if plastic can shine like a metal , can it conduct like a metal too?
Working and Construction
OLED mainly consist of cathode anode emitting material (organic) and a glass substrate
Many organic materials are used as emitting material here we will get to know about MEHPPV
Advantage
Self-luminous
Low cost and easy fabrication
Color selectivity
Light weight, compact, thin
Flexibility
High brightness – high resolution
Wide viewing angle
Fast response
Low voltage requirement
disadvantages
Highly susceptable to oxidation
Lifetime
Operating point cant be more than glass substrate , so low operating point
Low mobility of organic molecules
