Introduction
Detection and tracking of moving vehicles is one of the most challenging problems in computer vision ap-plications. Now a days, traffic accidents is one of the bigest problems in many cities. For this purpose som researchers have studied how artificial intelligence tech-niques can be applied to traffic data measurements.
Traffic lights, also called traffic signals, traffic lamps, signal lights and stop lights. These are signal-ling devices placed at road intersections to control the flows of traffic.
Traffic lights are the right of way according to road users by displaying lights of a standard color (red, orange, and green) following a universal color code. These codes are:
• The green light allows traffic to flow in the direction mentioned, if it is safe to go.
• The orange light denoting prepare to stop, if it is safe to stop.
• The red signal prohibits any traffic from proceeding.
There are several studies in the literature about automatic vehicle control system. These kind of systems must work under variable lighting conditions. And also during day and night time.
Traffic lights were first used in 1868 in London. But now are used in whole the world. The reason was increasing the number of accidents on road and the failure of men control system. Following, worldwidede road accidents statistics graph.
Traffic Signal Control Functions
Effective traffic signal control systems provide control and maintenance functions:
Control of traffic by adjusting and coordinating traffic signals at intersections.
Surveillance by monitoring traffic conditions with vehicle detectors and cameras.
Maintenance of equipment by monitoring for equipment failures.
These functions allow a traffic management agency to service traffic demand, share traffic status with other agencies and with the traveling public and maintain the traffic signal control system
Control and Coordination of Traffic Signals
Traffic signal control systems control signal timing. It controls timing at individual signal controllers to coordinate surface traffic flow in the most ad-vanced systems. Traffic flow information is used as input data by algorithms in traffic control programs. It adjusts signals timing plans automatically in response to current traffic demand
Description
The AT89C55WD is a low power, high efficient CMOS 8-bit microcontroller. It has 20K bytes of Flash programmable read only memory. Also 256 bytes of RAM. The device is manufactured using Atmel’s high density nonvolatile memory technology. The on chip flash allows the program memory to be user programmed by a conventional nonvolatile memory programmer. By combining 8 bit CPU to a flash on a monolithic chip, the Atmel AT89C55WD is a powerful microcontroller which provides a highly flexible and effective solution.
The AT89C55WD provides the following standard features:
Summary & Conclusion
This project can control the traffic in smooth way and abe to minimize the traffic accidents.
This is able control of traffic by adjusting and coordinating traffic signals at intersections.
