ABSTRACT
To reduce the weld defects in header nipple welding and increase the productivity
INTRODUCTION
Header is a component of boiler which used for distribution of water and steam to various components.
The Header is in the form of hollow long cylindrical shape, it is drilled with various number of holes.
The long critical shape pipe with smaller diameter called Nipple is attach to the header by means of welding.
The header and nipple are subjected to high temperature and pressure during process, so weld should be more perfect.
Now a days these welding is done by shield metal arc welding(SMAW).

1.Process goes with the consumable electrode or non consumable electrode
2.Arc produced between the tip of the electrode & work piece
3.Heat generated heats the electrode & immediate area of the base projected by arc
4.Weld forms when molten metal ,mixture of base metal and electrode metal and substance from the coating on the electrode solidifies
