In 1980’s Earth Air Tunnels (EAT) gained lot of popularity. As the name suggests EAT are tunnels dug deep in earth, which transfer air into the house for natural cooling purpose. It is also called as earth tubes in Europe, earth air heat exchangers in North America and earth tunnels in India. These do not require heavy machinery, movable parts and they do not break. These are expensive to install and inexpensive to operate. It is one of the most important technique used for air cooling. It provides efficient way of cooling the air naturally and hence is used aptly as passive cooling technique in modern design of industries and even houses. These systems are known by several other names such as air-to-soil heat exchangers, earth channels, earth canals, underground air pipes and several others. Earth air heat exchangers can be analyzed for performance with several software applications using weather gauge data.
