Abstracts: Shock Absorbers are mainly used as per name to absorb the shock on the vehicle. A springing device must be compromise between flexibilities and stiffness. If it is more rigid, it will more absorb road shock efficiently and is more flexible it will continue to vibrate even after the bump has passed, so we must have sufficient damping of the spring to prevent excessive flexing. The friction between the leaves of a leaf spring provides this dumping, but because of the uncertainly of lubrication conditions, the amount of friction also varies and the dumping characteristics do not remain constant. For this reason, the friction between the springs is reduced to minimum and additional dumping is provided by means of devices called dumper and Shock Absorbers. In the case of coil spring, the whole dumping is provided by the shock absorber. The shock absorbers thus control the excessive spring vibrations. In fact the name shock absorber is rather misleading since it is the spring and not the shock absorber initially absorbs the shocks. The ‘Shock absorber’ absorbs the energy of shock converted into vertical moment of the axel by providing dumping and dissipating the same into heat. Thus it merely serves to control the amplitude and frequency of spring vibrations. It can’t support weight and zero resilience. Therefore, the ‘Dumper’ is better term technically to describe ‘shock absorber’. But in dumper there certain problems occurs when there is defect in dumper cylinder. If the defect takes place than the oil leakage will be there form cylinder. Due to the oil leakage the capacity to absorb the energy will be decreased. We are making shock absorber by using magnets. By it we can remove oil from shock absorber. A detail report of our study about shock absorbers and conclusion reached.
