DISHA
DISHA (Developing Intervention for Social Human Action), is a Non-Governmental Organization aim towards imparting quality education to all children with special focus on government schools through Project AAMACHI SHALA.
Project AMACHI SHALA aspire for overall development of student, strengthening and enhancing the quality of formal education given in Municipal School, upholding and enhancing enrollment of student, participatory and proactive role of parents in education, to transform attitude of teachers from instructor to facilitator in learning process of children in Municipal Corporation School. The main object of this project is to strengthen student and to give equal opportunity to them to compete and survive in present fast changing world.
AAMACHI SHALA (Quality Education to Children In Municipal Corporation School)
Objectives of AAMACHI SHALA:
• To identify the causes of declining strength of student in Municipal corporation school.
• To inculcate the value education with formal education.
• To enhance the parents participation in the overall growth and development of the child.
• To educate civic sense and build values and morals in children.
• To formulate the policy changes for quality education.
• Research and documentation of work.
Activities:
1. Appropriate Classroom and School Environment
The visits were paid to private and convent schools to find out infrastructure and other facilities provided to students. Teachers of private schools were invited and suggestions were taken from them regarding maintaining appropriate classroom and school environment. The first initiative was taken to provide appropriate classroom environment to the student in Municipal School. Hence classrooms, toilets, School premises, play ground was cleaned. Also the process to provide potable water to children was facilitated. Educational charts were provided to teachers for inculcate habit of cleanliness in students. The printed rules were pasted in classrooms. Dustbins were provided to every classroom. Parents were informed through letters to strictly follow instructions given to inculcate cleanliness in children. The monthly class on physical cleanliness, environmental cleanliness was facilitated by DISHA’s Counsellor. The Counsellor and even teachers are noticing the children’s changed attitude towards cleanliness. For further motivation of students DISHA is sponsoring ‘BEST NEAT AND CLEAN STUDENT OF THE YEAR’ trophy and appreciation award comprising of School Kit.
2. Study the socio-economic condition of the student
The list of name and addresses was taken from Education officer, Amravati Municipal Corporation. It was observed that majority of students enroll in Municipal Corporation School were from slum areas of Amravati. The assessment survey with the help of Cognizant associates was conducted to map the socio- economic profile of families of students. Through this survey, difficulties faced by families to sustain children in education stream were identified. Also the group of floating students who are enrolled in schools but is on the edge of dropping out from the school was found out. The group of 179 orphan & single parent children was traced who will soon forced by circumstances to quit school and work as child labour. Support services like educational sponsorship, distribution of School Kit, Educational Material and guidance is needed to sustain these children in main stream education. This drive of need assessment will be a regular activity of project to check the dropped out rate and redirect students to schools by taking various measures.
