Abstracts: In Hindustan Dorr Oliver Ltd, we observed different phases of manufacturing and assembly of the Rotary Vacuum Drum Filter (RVDF), while working on it we found different types of problems in manufacturing, inspection and assembly processes. In first step we understood what rotary vacuum drum filter is. Then we went through its design, manufacturing process, testing and assembly processes. The problems faced during the manufacturing and Fabrication shop isdistortion and drum piping leakage. The problem faced during the assembly of RVDF in Assembly shop is miss-alignment. We had tried to solve the problems using with our knowledge and ideas. Some of them worked out and some didn’t.Welding methods that involve the melting of metal at the site of the joint necessarily are prone to shrinkage as the heated metal cools. Shrinkage then introduces residual stresses and distortion. Distortion can pose a major problem, since the final product is not the desired shape. To tackle the distortion we come with an idea of placing small longcuboids under the two plates which are to be joined. Due to its own weight of the plate distortion in the plate can reduce. After that we come up with an idea of placing a small water pump inside the drum which will solve the problem of leakage. Placing a small water pump will help us to stop worrying about leakage in the filter. This all was not enough we were searching for a big one and we got it. A slight modification in design can make filter more efficient. And we come up with a new modified design of rotary vacuum drum filter.
