Abstract:
The project develops a system which acquires images using cell phones embedded with digital camera to recognize & extract information encoded in QR Code. If the decoded QR Code contains information such as URL, it allows to access that URL directly on cell phone,in case of mobile or telephone number,it allows to send message or to make call on that number.
INTRODUCTION
When the need to store a lot more information in a barcode arose, the concept of 2D barcode was born.
The quick response (QR) bar code was originally created by Japanese company Denso-Wave back in 1994 .
Unlike some other 2D symbologies(Color Code, EZcode, Aztec code, Bullseye etc.) that require a license to use the 2D code the QR Code is free to use by anyone.
Japan is currently the largest user of QR Codes.
The QR code design allows characters to be stored in a format where the data is not identified by a single vertical black strip. Instead, characters can be placed anywhere within a rectangle (information is stored in both the horizontal and vertical directions).
QRCode enables the storage of various kinds of information such as WebSite addresses, Mobile phone numbers along with a SMS,geographic information, plain text and images
Dirt & Damage Resistant:
QR Code has error correction capability.
Data can be restored even if the symbol is partially dirty or damaged.
A maximum 30% of codewords can be restored.
A codeword is a unit that constructs the data area. In the case of QR Code, one codeword is equal to 8 bits.
Data restoration may not be fully performed depending on the amount of dirt or damage.
Readable from any direction in 360°:
QR Code is capable of 360 degree.
QR Code accomplishes this task through position detection patterns located at the three corners of the symbol.
These position detection patterns guarantee stable high-speed reading
Symbol Version:
The symbol versions of QR Code range from Version 1 to Version 40. Each version has a different module configuration or number of modules. (The module refers to the black and white dots that make up QR Code.)
"Module configuration" refers to the number of modules contained in a symbol, commencing with Version 1 (21 × 21 modules) up to Version 40 (177 × 177 modules).
Each higher version number comprises 4 additional modules per side.
Each QR Code symbol version has the maximum data capacity according to the amount of data, character type and error correction level.
In other words, as the amount of data increases, more modules are required to comprise QR Code, resulting in larger QR Code symbols
Working:
J2me-capable cellphone with integrated camera is needed to run this application on it.
After application has been installed into the Cellphone,Focus the camera at the QR code .
A stand-by screen appears letting us to know that the phone is busy decoding the QR code.
Depending on the phone this may take several seconds.
When the phone has finished decoding QR code, the resulting screen shows the decoded text.
