Brief Introduction of DD-kashir
DD-Kashir is a state owned TV channel telecasting from Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, Jammu and Leh. DD-Kashir includes programmes focusing on Kashmiri culture and traditions and the history of Kashmir valley. DD-Kashir is the Kashmiri language satellite channel supported by Doordarshan studios in Srinagar, Jammu and Leh. Launched in 2003 DD-Kashir has entertainment serials, infotainment programmes, news & current affairs, social and cultural programmes and film programmes as its major content. In terrestrial mode, DD-Kashir is available to 96% of the population of the valley. It was used to be operated from Delhi but in the year 2006 but the Centre decided to shift the operations of Doordarshan's `Kashir` channel to Srinagar from Delhi, thus fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of the Valley. DD Kashir also became a 24-hour channel from 15 August 2000. The channel used to telecast a 14 and half hour programme daily. Out of these, commissioned programmes account for six hours, another four and half hours are taken by in-house and news/current affairs programmes while the archival programmes take four hours daily. The special audience programmes cover Gojri, Pahari, Ladakhi, Dogri, Sheena, Balti, Pushtu,
Doordarshan had a modest beginning with the experimental telecast starting in Delhi on 15 September 1959 with a small transmitter and a makeshift studio. The regular daily transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio. The television service was extended to Bombay (now Mumbai) and Amritsar in 1972. Up until 1975, only seven Indian cities had a television service and Doordarshan remained the sole provider of television in India. Television services were separated from radio in April 1, 1976. Each office of All India Radio and Doordarshan were placed under the management of two separate Director Generals in New Delhi. Finally, in 1982, Doordarshan as a National Broadcaster came into existence. Krishi Darshan was the first program telecast on Doordarshan. It commenced on January 26, 1967 and is one of the longest running programs on Indian television.
VARIOUS SECTIONS OF DD-Kashir
STUDIOS:
Studio Television signals for broadcasting are originated by cameras ,recorded at the studios and replayed by video tape recorders, mixed in studio vision mixers and finally distributed for transmission. Action In this includes staging, lightening, and performance by artists.
Tape RECORDERS:
Video Tape recorders VTR room is provided at each studio center. It houses at least two console type 1”videotape recorders (VTR’s) and a few Broadcast Standard Video Cassette Recorders (VCRs). In these recorders, sound and video signals are recorded simultaneously on the same tape. VTR is used to see the previews. Control panel is the panel from where all the control is managed.
Transmission:
Transmission system carries digital base band system signals from studio to earth station site to minimize the noise interface. The base band system is monitered and control through a base band NMS PC. It also comprises of digital multiplexers and digital modulators. The compression segment comprises of MPEG encoders for providing redundancy.
Video chain of OB VAN:
Video chain of OB VAN Output from the switcher goes to stabilizing amplifier via PP and VDA’s. Output from the stab. Is further distributed to various destinations. It may be noted that the use of VDA’s helps to monitor the video signal at different locations and the use of PP is very helpful for emergency arrangements during breakdowns and trouble shooting. A separate monitoring bus is provided in CCU, LCU and END CONTROL with sources as. END CONTROL also has a remote for the adjustment of levels etc. in the STAB AMP unit. R out for the other sources is similar to this and can be understood from the block schematic.
