WIRELESS PACKET ANALYZER
WIRELESS PACKET .doc (Size: 48.5 KB / Downloads: 12)
INTRODUCTION:
PURPOSE:
To develop an application that can intercept the log traffic passing over a network. As data packet flow across the network we will capture each packet and decodes the packet’s raw data showing the values of various fields in the packet and analyzes its content according to the appropriate specifications. Following are the purposes that a packet analyzer can serve:
Diagnosing and investigating network problems
Discovering the attack attempts
SCOPE:
Due to the evolution and dominance of the WLAN in nowadays networks, the use of the packet analyzer is required to improve the security and performance of the networks.
Configuring the WLAN adapter
Before we can start capturing control and management 802.11 packets we first need to enable monitor mode for the wireless adapter. We do this at the Linux command prompt. First, open a terminal window. To check for the installed WLAN device, use iwconfig. There should be a list of installed network devices, one or more of which provides WLAN services. Below is an example, showing a single IEEE 802.11 b/g device, eth1.
