Abstract
The Extensible Markup Language (XML) has become indispensable in many areas, but a significant disadvantage is its size. Tagging and set of data increases the space needed to store it, the bandwidth needed to transmit it, and time needed to parse it. XML is extremely verbose, so compression is needed. Xml data compression means removes the redundancy from xml program [1]. Unlike html xml having unlimited number of tags makes its size very large. The compression of xml documents is a lossless type data compression because after compression the original document can be reproduced from the compressed document by decompression. Lossy compression allows us reproduce something “pretty much like” the original data set. Most often lossy compression used for image, sound file, & video [2]. There are few common themes to compress xml files. One is separating the tree structure from the text or data. Another is finding ways to regroup the data elements for better performance. There are two techniques of achieving compression of xml document [3]. There are various xml compression programs such as Xmill, Xgrind and Xpress [2]. In these days two new xml compression programs are used. Those are Axechop and Treechop.
