Humans are very good at recognizing faces and computers complex patterns. Even a long passage of time doesn't affect this capability and therefore it would help become as robust as humans in face recognition. Face recognition is probably one of the most non-intrusive and user-friendly biometric authentication methods currently available; a screensaver equipped with face recognition technology can automatically unlock the screen whenever the authorized user approaches the computer.

Face recognition is touted be one of the major security measures to be taken at different crowd collection junctures, especially those sensitive to suspected terrorist activities as airports and railway stations. Many airports have been equipped with the systems to take snapshots of different members of the community which can then be compared to the existing database of suspected members of fanatic communities to block in a relatively fool-proof method.
Although face recognition as a technique is gaining popularity in terms of its security, it has also come under the scanner of multiple civil liberties unions and has been accused of infringement on the privacy of individuals. There is, as in any other technology a very fine line between proper and suitable use and the excessive taking advantage of technology for spurious purposes.
Still, it is almost obviously clear that this will be a technology to look for in security systems in the future. That’s what is kept in mind in dealing with this paper, enumerating the different methods and algorithms involved and explaining a selected one.
