Robocode is a fun, easy to use battle simulator Robocode is from IBM (2001) Runs on the Java 2 platform – Originally meant as a Java teaching tool – Has quickly become a world wide game Brief History of Robocode The Robocode game was originally started by Mathew A. Nelson, in late 2000 and became a professional one when he brought it to IBM. In the beginning of 2005, Robocode was brought to SourceForge as Open Source with Robocode version 1.0.7. Introduction to Robocode Robocode is a programming game where the goal is to code a robot to compete against other robots in a battle arena. The player is the programmer of the robot Robocode is an environment in which virtual robots, developed in Java, can battle against each other. The robots simulate tanks in a battle arena, and in order to find other robots they are equipped with radars. A robot can move forwards and backwards at different speeds and turn left and right. System Requirements It runs on all platforms like Windows, Mac OS X, Linux etc. In order to install and run Robocode, JavaTM must be installed on your system. The current version of Robocode requires at least Java 5 (aka Java 1.5.0) or newer. Creating a Robot The first step is to open up the Robot Editor. From the main Robocode screen, click on the Robot menu, then select Editor. When the editor window comes up, click on the File menu, then select New Robot. In the dialogs that follow, type in a name for your robot, and enter your initials. You now see the code for your own robot. |
