Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) (BSE: 500325, NSE: RELIANCE, LSE: RIGD) is an Indian conglomerate company headquartered in Mumbai, India. The company operates through three business segments: petrochemicals, refining, and oil and gas, other segment of the company includes textile, retail business, special economic zone (SEZ) development and telecom/broadband business. RIL is the largest publicly traded company in India by market capitalization and second-largest public corporation in India when ranked by revenue. The company is listed on Fortune Global 500 and Forbes Global 2000.

In September 2008 Reliance Industries was the only Indian firm featured in the Forbes's list of "world's 100 most respected companies".In 2010 it stood at 13th position in the Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings.

• Reliance Life Sciences participates in medical, plant and industrial biotechnology opportunities. Specifically, these relate to biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals, clinical research services, regenerative medicine, molecular medicine, novel therapeutics, biofuels, plant biotechnology, and industrial biotechnology.
• Reliance Institute of Life Sciences (Rils), established by Dhirubhai Ambani Foundation, is an institution of higher education in various fields of life sciences and related technologies.
• Reliance Logistics (P) Limited is a single-window solutions provider for transportation, distribution, warehousing, logistics, and supply chain needs, supported by in-house state of the art telematics and telemetry solutions.
• Reliance Clinical Research Services (RCRS), a contract research organisation (CRO) and wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Life Sciences, has been set up to provide clinical research services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies.

Reliance retail
Reliance Retail is the retail business wing of the Reliance business. Many brands like Reliance Fresh, Reliance Footprint, Reliance Time Out, Reliance Digital Store, Reliance Wellness, Reliance Trendz, Reliance Autozone, Reliance Super, Reliance Mart, Reliance iStore, Reliance Home Kitchens, Reliance Market (Cash n Carry) and Reliance Jewel come under the Reliance Retail brand.
Environmental record
Reliance Industry is the world's largest polyester producer and as a result one of the largest producers of polyester waste in the world. In order to deal with this large amount of waste, they had to create a way to recycle the waste. They operate the largest polyester recycling center that uses the polyester waste as a filling and stuffing. They developed an innovative recycling process resulting in an award in 'Team Excellence'Reliance owns world's largest refinery in Jamnagar which happens to be "zero discharge" refinery. Effluent Treatment Plants based on worlds best available technology processes the waste release and converts waste in to usable product. Reliance has also planted more than 5 million trees around this refinery in order to reduce the carbon foot print.
Power Transmission Projects
Reliance Infrastructure Limited has commissioned country’s first 100% privately owned transmission line in India on Build, Own, Operate basis. This line has been constructed between Solapur and Karad, two prime cities and district places in the Western Regions of the Maharashtra State. 116 km long 400kV double circuit Solapur – Karad transmission line is the first line under the Western Regional System Strengthening Scheme (WRSSS) project having an outlay of about Rs. 1,400 crore and a total length of 1,500 km. RInfra’s wholly owned subsidiary company, Reliance Power Transmission Ltd. (RPTL) was awarded the project through tariff based competitive bidding process. After signing the Power Transmission Agreement with the Western Region beneficiaries in March 2009 and subsequently achieving financial closure in 70 days, the Company has completed the first line in a record time of 15 months and is expected to commission the complete project by the Q2FY12. Once commissioned, the project would facilitate the free flow of 4,000 MW from power rich Eastern region to the power starved Western region of the country and would benefit all regional utilities. Currently, RInfra is executing 5 transmission projects spreading across almost all parts of the country with a total project outlay of over Rs. 6,600 crore. The Company owns 3 out of 4 Ultra Mega Transmission projects awarded to private sector till date, making RInfra as the largest developer of transmission projects in private space.
Dadri & Sasan projects
Reliance Energy is currently constructing a 5500 MW gas generation power plant in the district of Dadri in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. It is planned to be the single largest gas grassroot gas fired generation plant in the world and will solve much of the power supply shortages of northern India. The ADAG group was earlier in a bitter fight with Mukesh Ambani controlled Reliance Industries as the Gas for this project was not tied up. The matter remained under in the Bombay high court. On June 15, 2009 the Mumbai High court ruled the case in favour of the Reliance Natural Gas Limited asking the Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries to stick to its commitment of providing the gas to RNRL at a stipulated amount being agreed upon prior to the split between the brothers.
